Story
The story of Sivathandavam revolves around a RAW agent Vikram, who will lose his vision in a bomb explosion. Jagapati Babu would be helping Vikram in carrying out the operations and accomplishing them successfully. These tasks would be assigned to them by the governments.Meanwhile, Amy Jackson-a British born Indian girl-befriends Vikram. Amy Jackson's father is a doctor who will conduct autopsy of a person murdered by Vikram. The investigation would be carried out by special officer Nasser. Vikram also meets an eye doctor Anushka. They will soon befriend each other. What happens to Vikram next...how will he lose his vision and what's the role of Jagapati Babu will form the remaining part of the story.
Analysis :
The
direction of A L Vijay didn't work wonders as many places the film
lacked logic. Vikram was shown as a person who plays for church choir in
London and who doesn't even hurt an ant. And on flip side, he murders
people. The screenplay, however, was okay as it generated suspense in
the first half. The cinematography of Nirav Shah was good especially the
way he showed London. Some scenes in the movie would be feast to eyes.
Music of G V Prakash was just ordinary. The action sequences were okay.Performance :
Vikram
was undoubtedly the life and soul of the movie. Although he looked
tired, he gave his best. Jagapati Babu could have done better. Anushka
was looking real fresh and drop dead gorgeous. Amy Jackson was good.
Remaining actors such as Santhanam and Nassar were okay.
If
you are looking for the Prabhas of Mr Perfect, then Rebel is sure to
disappoint you. However macho man turned action Prabhas has done his
best in Rebel, though Lawrence could have matched his performance with a
powerful narration. On the other hand the director tried his best in
depicting Prabhas in a different way. Lawrence is ever smitten by the
flash back bug and this time too, the episode gives a specific turn to
the narration, an unexpected one. Prabhas had been his best but the
story needed to be tinkered to build up the necessary momentum,
revealing the lack of home work by the director. Comedy fell flat and
failed to widen your lips for a smile.
The
director could have done better, in spite of the actor emoting better
than his previous endeavors. Prabhas was well at home in his role which
had shades of a vagabond, lover boy and hard core Don. Looks like the brawny hero of Tollywood had put up his best performance till date. A treat to his fans.
On
the whole the film is a new approach to our age old formula of a
triangle love story. Priyamani as Charu and Latha is bewitching and
needs a special mention for her extraordinary acting skills. Charulatha
is an Indian adaptation to the Thai film 'Alone.' The cinematography is
awesome with no hitches in depicting the scenes with the twins. Though
the plot weakens in the second half direction and emotions take center
stage to cover up the loss. The narration and screen play are no doubt
engrossing but little more shocks would have kept the audience on the
edges. The ghost character that is out for a revenge, expresses in a
peculiar way that only Priyamani could manage.
Direction
tops the icing with splendid performance from Priyamani. This portrayal
is sure to fetch her many awards. Cinematography by P Selvam is awesome
and needs special mention. Especially the change over of behavior after
the surgery is a worthy element well enacted by Priyamani. The silent
Charu turns into a loud mouthed girl while Latha turns vice-versa. In
spite of all this there is no identity crisis between the two, thanks to
the actor's talent. Skanda just lags on in her shadows.
